Shoreditch House - Soho House - Gebler Tooth

Shoreditch House

An important part of the design ethos required by the client, Soho House, was to enhance and use the fantastic innate industrial character of the existing twentieth century building, located in the upper parts of the Tea and Biscuit Buildings in Shoreditch, East London. Another important consideration in the design was that it would be for all day use, feeling as comfortable to work and socialise in during the quieter times of the day as in the more busy social nights and weekends.

The sixth floor consists of a substantial raised deck with terraces for eating and drinking, part of which is covered by a retractable glazed roof, as well as ancillary kitchen and changing cabins. These are all arranged around a deck level stainless steel swimming pool, also with panoramic views over the City, and together they presented some interesting design challenges and technical solutions.

Winning entry of the LABC’s Building Excellence Award that recognised both a look and feel that set a new fashion in club, bar and hotel design across the capital but also its functional construction excellence.
