Another project related to the Manor House in Surrey described above. With the acquisition of additional land to the estate came a confused and run-down country house, subject to previous unsympathetic extensions and alterations and a collapsing Listed barn and other nondescript outbuildings.
We set about recycling the various outbuildings into Planning Permissions for new structures and demolishing part of the main house and extending and altering it. Lastly, the Barn was dismantled in two phases and re-erected on the same site with new concrete slab, reclaimed brick dwarf walls, new cladding, roofing, doors and full height windows to create a home office or entertaining space.
The end result was to create an elegant country house with a group of new buildings including the barn and a self-contained ‘granny flat’ arranged to form a harmonious courtyard setting.
Key Achievement – Inserting the new against the period in a relevant and sensitive way, and by use of the right materials and layout to create a satisfying space where before there was none.
