Airport Hangar | Infrastructure

Domus III is a 175,000 sq ft four-bay aircraft hangar designed and built for Farnborough Airport, representing a significant expansion of the airport’s operational facilities.
Spanning 300 metres and positioned parallel to the runway, the hangar features full-length translucent automated doors that maximise natural daylight while allowing large, unobstructed aircraft access. This improves aircraft manoeuvrability on the apron and reduces the need for artificial lighting within the building.
The hangar has been designed to support future long-haul aircraft developments while improving operational efficiency and reducing unnecessary emissions from ground handling activities.
Sustainability is central to the building’s design, with features including an intelligent daylight-responsive lighting system, eco-efficient heating, integrated building control and energy monitoring, and a 280-metre symphonic rainwater harvesting system.
The project also included improvements to surrounding aprons and taxiways, carefully phased to minimise disruption to Farnborough Airport’s operations.
