Capacity and process planning, architecture, baggage design, M&E, and structural design services for a dedicated temporary terminal built at London Heathrow for the exclusive use of departing athletes of the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Our team was extensively involved throughout the project from the inception of the plan, choice of site location, size, method of operation and traffic links, through to completion, and handover to operations.

The terminal, equivalent in size to three Olympic swimming pools, was equipped with 31 check in desks, baggage acceptance and removal points and vehicle docks. Passenger queuing, security screening points, passport control and departure gates were all provided. The building was fully air conditioned and serviced with all required airport and airline security and data systems.

The interior of the terminal was fitted out to resemble a London park, ‘the best of British’. The facility enabled Heathrow to accept a major spike in departing passenger numbers after the closure of the London Games without incident, and to press acclaim.
