When our client bought these part Victorian stables, they were used as a working farm. Our brief was to convert them into mixed uses, for farm staff accommodation, residential use, welfare and horse stables, whilst reinstating the charm of a Victorian courtyard stable setting. The chosen palette of materials were hand-made clay roof tiles, traditional timber windows and detailing (replacing the mixture of rotten timber windows and newer industrial concrete lintels alongside their Crittal windows), oak framed, ledged and braced doors and a new York stone sett courtyard cobbles. Internally the traditional king post trusses were celebrated alongside contemporary interiors.
